Exeter City manager Matt Taylor says the club is "so lucky" to have captain Jack Fitzwater after he scored the opening goal in Saturday's 2-0 win over Accrington Stanley.
The 28-year-old defender put the Grecians ahead within two minutes, turning a cross into the net.
Gwion Edwards doubled the lead 11 minutes later as Exeter secured their first win of the season.
Taylor praised Fitzwater, saying the centre-back has been "outstanding" so far this season, even though the team has not kept a clean sheet.
Fitzwater joined Exeter from Scottish Premiership side Livingston in 2023 and has made 67 appearances, scoring three goals.
"I think we've seen the best of him so far this season," Taylor said to BBC Radio.
"He didn't get the rewards of the clean sheet and the praise everyone gets if we keep the goals out in the Devon derby [against Plymouth Argyle] or at Grimsby Town.
"But since I came into this football club Jack Fitzwater has been outstanding.
"We're so privileged and so lucky to have him as our captain."
Exeter travel to York City on 29 August for their next League Two match.
