Woman Shares Near-Death Experience After Vision Went Black, Believes She Went to Heaven

Courtney Santiago, a 32-year-old woman from New Jersey, US, has shared her harrowing near-death experience after her vision went black following a breakup and the death of a friend. Seeking medical advice due to extreme weakness and stress, Courtney underwent a breast MRI in July 2022, but within moments, her life was on the line. She has since shared her story on TikTok, amassing nearly 60,000 views and thousands of likes.

During the MRI, Courtney lost consciousness and her vision went black. She described slipping into a dream state where she found herself standing on a beach in front of a man she had never met but felt a deep connection with. Without speaking, he reassured her that everything would be okay and that it was not yet her time. Her scenery then shifted to mountains and her childhood home’s backyard, places where she felt most connected to nature.

When Courtney woke up, she experienced temporary stiffness in her body but soon regained her ability to speak and was discharged. Further tests revealed that she had suffered an episode of vasovagal syncope, a condition often triggered by emotional distress, causing prolonged fainting episodes where the heart stops for a short period.

Although not considered life-threatening, Courtney believes her experience went beyond a typical fainting episode. She described her encounter as the “in-between” and more than just a medical event. Despite the rarity, she shared her vision with a nurse who acknowledged the possibility of passing away during an episode of vasovagal syncope.

Courtney’s TikTok videos recount her ordeal, expressing a sense that something was going to go wrong during the examination. Many users commented, sharing their own experiences and expressing belief and support. Courtney feels relieved to have an answer and plans to seek treatment for her symptoms, emphasizing the importance of managing stress and fostering stronger relationships. She finds peace in knowing that consciousness continues after death and that there is nothing to fear.
