Government health officials are examining the results of pollution samples taken from an Exmouth brook where the water turned bright blue, while a criminal investigation is also under way.
Last week, discoloured water prompted the Environment Agency (EA) to investigate a mystery pollutant in Littleham Brook, which it confirmed was not sewage. East Devon News understands a criminal investigation is underway, and the EA has shared the water sampling results with its partners at the UK Health Security Agency (UKHSA).
The government scientific agency, whose role includes protecting public health, is expected to assess whether the pollution poses a risk to Exmouth. The Environment Agency will use the information to review the current no-swim warning for Exmouth beach and Littleham Brook.
