A new video from the Devon SEND Local Area Partnership features conversations with SEND families and the professionals who support them, explaining the area’s approach.
Devon’s Four Cornerstones were co-produced. Co-production brings together children, young people, parent carers and practitioners in an equal and reciprocal relationship, enabling genuine participation in decision-making. It is part of the Devon SEND Strategy’s commitment to rebuilding trust with families.
The Four Cornerstones are as follows:
One parent describes feeling welcomed and cared for as “someone saying ‘I’ve got you – I’m going to talk you through the next steps’ and making sure you don’t feel like you’re going through this system alone.”
In the film, parents share what each cornerstone means to them, while staff from schools and services discuss the difference the approach makes in building or rebuilding relationships.
