A Saltash primary school is to improve its outdoor learning facilities with a £2,000 donation from one of Cornwall's biggest housebuilders.
Persimmon Homes Cornwall & West Devon has given the money to Burraton Primary School through its Community Champions programme. That programme distributes £700,000 to good causes and community organisations across Britain every year.
The donation was presented to pupils and staff at the school alongside Cornwall Councillor Keith Johnson.
Burraton has been part of the Saltash community for more than 50 years. It currently has 312 pupils, including 19 children within its on-site Additional Resource Base. It also has a nursery welcoming children from the age of two.
The school plans to use the money to improve its outdoor educational space, giving pupils more chances to learn and develop outside the classroom.
Headteacher Hannah Robinson said the school was "incredibly grateful" for the support.
She said: "This funding will provide our children with even more opportunities to learn, explore, and develop valuable skills beyond the classroom.
"Outdoor learning has such an important role to play in children's wellbeing, confidence, and personal development, and we are excited to see how this generous support will enhance the experiences we can offer our pupils."
The donation comes as Persimmon is also seeking permission to build up to 300 new homes at nearby Latchbrook Farm. The proposed development has a site reserved for a new school immediately north of the housing site. Persimmon says contributions from the scheme could help facilitate its opening and improve existing schools in the area.
The development would also include active travel routes, an equipped playground, natural play areas and more than half of the site retained as green space. Plans include bike storage, wildlife corridors and biodiversity improvements, while 30 per cent of the proposed homes would be reserved for a local housing association.
Persimmon says millions of pounds of community investment would accompany a successful application.
Sales director Jane Cartwright said the company wanted to support local services in Saltash while seeking to deliver new homes.
She said: "As a developer seeking to bring much-needed new homes to Saltash, we felt it important to show our support to local services like Burraton Primary with this donation.
"We are so pleased to hear this money will go towards helping the school's children spend time learning and making the most of the outside."
Cllr Johnson said the donation represented an investment in the wider community.
He said: "A gift to a school is much more than a financial contribution, it is an investment in children, their dreams and the future of our community. The strongest communities are built not only with bricks and timber, but with kindness, opportunity and people who care."
