Here is a roundup of the latest cases heard at Cornwall's magistrates' courts. Everyone charged with an offence, from minor crimes to the most serious, appears initially before the magistrates. The most serious cases are then sent to Truro Crown Court. If a defendant pleads guilty, they could be sentenced straight away or have the matter put back for a pre-sentence report. If they deny the allegations, the case will be adjourned for a trial. The courts are open to anyone, and our reporters attend just like any other member of the public. Jayd Cloughton-Kehoe, of Castle Street, Liskeard, appeared at Truro on November 19, 2025, where he assaulted two police constables in the execution of their duty. On the same day in St Austell, without lawful excuse, he damaged a Peugeot 308 police car belonging to Devon and Cornwall Police. He received a community order with a rehabilitation activity requirement of 20 days and was ordered to pay £150 in compensation.
A person of no fixed abode, from Bugle, was sentenced for theft and dangerous driving. On September 13, 2025, at the Park Medical Centre in St Austell, they stole a CCTV camera. On October 20, 2025, at Iceland in St Austell, they stole five packs of CherryB and four packs of Babycham valued at £56. On November 5, 2025, at Bodmin, they drove a white Renault Clio dangerously on the B3268 Lostwithiel Road. On the same day they failed to stop when required by a constable and also drove without third party insurance. The court imposed an obligatory disqualification of five years and 203 days, plus an imprisonment period of 48 weeks. The reason given was: "you drive dangerously at excessive speeds in public, you were only stopped when the stinger was deployed, you have a horrific record of driving offences. You have engaged minimally with probation. In order to protect the public we have no choice but to activate this suspended sentence and make this further sentence consecutive." Compensation of £300 was also ordered.
A resident of Pengover Close, Liskeard, was dealt with for driving offences. On May 12 they used a vehicle on the A3047 in Camborne without a valid driving licence. On May 16 in St Austell they used a motor vehicle without third party insurance in place.
