Three refuse collectors rescued a man after a car rolled onto its roof in Budleigh Salterton this morning.
The incident happened on West Hill on Friday, September 18. Gary May, Martyn Densham and Charlie Tate were on their recycling rounds when they came across the wreckage. Gary said that as they came out of Northview Road, they saw the car upside down in the middle of the road.
"We all jumped out and ran towards the car [where a] man was upside down in the drivers seat," Gary said. He said there was "leaking fluids and smoke" so the team worked to get the man out.
He added: "We asked the gentleman if he had any injuries, which he replied 'no', so we managed to undo the seat belt while holding him below so he wouldn't drop and hurt himself. I'm just glad he wasn't hurt."
At the time of the incident, Exmouth Police said there was "no suggestion" the car was speeding and there were no reported injuries.
A bus also became stuck after attempting to turn in the road to avoid the crash. A commercial recovery truck was called to "disassemble the back of the bus and lift the chassis" around.
