People in St Austell are being asked for their views on plans for a new 3G pitch at Poltair Park.
Cornwall College St Austell is preparing an application for the facility, which it says could support year-round football, community sport, physical activity and inclusive participation.
Two public consultation events will take place later this month at St Austell AFC. Residents will be able to find out more about the proposal, meet those involved and share their opinions. The events are on Tuesday 22 September and Wednesday 23 September, running from 5pm to 7.30pm.
"We want this proposal to be shaped by the people who could ultimately use and benefit from it," said Laetitia Mayne, Deputy Principal at Cornwall College St Austell.
"A new 3G pitch has the potential to create opportunities for young people, local clubs, schools and the wider community throughout the year. These consultation events are an important opportunity for us to listen and understand what St Austell needs from a facility like this."
The college is keen to hear from a wide range of people, including local football clubs and teams, women's and girls' teams, disability and inclusive sport groups, schools, community organisations, coaches, parents, young people and recreational participants.
Tregorrick AFC and Charlestown Football Club are also supporting the consultation. St Austell Rugby Club has backed the proposal because of the need for suitable winter training facilities for its youth teams.
The plans build on the recently announced partnership between Cornwall College and St Austell AFC, which has already supported the return of football to Poltair Park and aims to create further opportunities for the town and its communities.
Chris Knight, joint manager of St Austell AFC, said: "We've seen first-hand how much sport means to people in St Austell, and this is an opportunity for the community to help shape what could come next at Poltair Park.
"We want to hear from as many clubs, teams, families and local people as possible. The stronger the response, the clearer the picture we can build of what the town needs and how a 3G pitch could be used."
The consultation will also gather information on how local clubs and organisations currently use sports facilities, the activities they would like to see provided, and the potential number of people who could use the proposed pitch.
The community engagement events will take place from 5pm to 7.30pm on Tuesday, September 22 and Wednesday, September 23 at St Austell Football Club, Poltair Park, PL25 4LR. There is no need to book, and people can drop in at any point during either event.
