A holiday park described by visitors as "idyllic" could be expanded despite opposition from residents. Devon Hills Holiday Park, near Paignton in Devon, has applied to build more than 50 new holiday lodges on its site off the Totnes road at Blagdon.
Torbay Council planning officers have recommended the scheme for approval ahead of a planning committee meeting on Monday.
The proposals have proved controversial among some existing lodge owners, especially because part of the development would be built on the Moonshadow Rise area, which has been used as a dog walking field.
One resident argued in an objection submitted to the council that the open space had long been promoted as part of the park's appeal, said the Local Democracy Reporting Service.
The resident said: "The presence of dog litter bins and the use of images in advertisements showing couples walking dogs across the meadow reinforce that the field was, and continues to be, marketed as part of a particular lifestyle."
They added: "I would ask whether this part of Devon truly needs yet another holiday park development."
All 15 comments submitted on Torbay Council's planning portal objected to the plans.
But the Haulfryn Group, which owns the holiday park, said the proposals formed part of a wider investment programme. The company said that because demand for UK holidays had increased significantly in recent years, additional accommodation had been needed at Devon Hills.
Haulfryn said the park supported 70 full and part-time jobs and argued the expansion could create up to 17 more. The company also said the development would generate an estimated £3.4m in business turnover for the local economy.
The proposed lodges would be single-storey buildings finished in timber or timber-style cladding.
