Great Western Railway has issued an update after a person was hit by a train between Plymouth and Penzance on September 12. The company told passengers at around 4pm that emergency services were dealing with the incident, which brought all trains in and out of Cornwall to a stop. Disruption is expected to continue until around 6.30pm.
A statement from Great Western Railway reads: "Due to the emergency services dealing with an incident between Plymouth and Penzance all lines are blocked. Train services running to and from these stations may be cancelled, delayed or revised. Disruption is expected until 6.30pm. A person has been struck by a train, leading to all lines being blocked. It is necessary to bring all trains in the affected area to an immediate stop. If you are onboard one of the services in this incident and have been affected by this incident or know someone else who needs support, there is always someone to talk to. GWR says it is working with Network Rail and the emergency services to deal with the incident "as sensitively, quickly and safely as possible". It adds: "Your journey is likely to be delayed and could take up to 90 minutes longer to complete. Some trains will be revised, only completing parts of their normal journeys, and there will also be some cancellations. To avoid trains being stopped for a long time outside of a station, some of our longer distance trains may be held in station platforms some distance away from the affected area. We are sorry for the disruption to your journey today."
