The assisted dying bill will now go to the House of Lords for further scrutiny. Cornwall's MPs were among the minority today (September 11) when they voted to approve the bill, which sought to legalise assisted dying in England and Wales, but it was ultimately turned down.
This was the second reading of the bill, which aimed to allow terminally ill adults, subject to safeguards, to request and receive assistance to end their own lives. The bill had initially received 314 votes to 291 in its favour from MPs, but was brought back to the Commons today after the Lords blocked it. In today's vote, 269 MPs voted for the bill, while 286 voted against.
