A town centre fountain was drained after vandals filled it with soap bubbles.
Camborne Town Council shared a picture of the 137-year-old fountain in Commercial Square overflowing with white foam. In a Facebook post, the council said this is not the first time the fountain has been targeted. Each incident costs money to repair, money the council would rather spend on improving life for local residents.
In 2017, when the fountain was similarly targeted, the council said it cost £5,000 to fix.
It said: "The town centre fountain has been temporarily drained following continued incidents of vandalism, tampering and misuse.
"These incidents have resulted in the need for ongoing cleaning, maintenance and repairs, leading to significant ongoing costs. Unfortunately, this level of expenditure is not sustainable in the long term."
The fountain was also targeted in 2016, 2017 and 2019, and reports of soap or washing liquid being put in it, even as pranks, go back two decades.
The council said it is now looking at alternative solutions to keep the fountain running while preventing further vandalism.
It added: "We are now exploring alternative solutions to enable the continuing operation of the fountain, whilst preventing ongoing instances of interference and vandalism, with further updates when more information is available."
