The owner of an historic Cornwall pub is determined to keep it running despite a string of recent bad luck. Rose Cottage, in Redruth, closed on Friday, August 28, before reopening on Saturday afternoon.
The venue, which hosted singer James Morrison in June, has gained a reputation after its previous landlord went on a bizarre tirade against Redruth, calling it "Deadruth" and insulting former employees.
In a since deleted Facebook post, the pub said it had to close unexpectedly on Friday due to a "serious incident".
Pub owner Hayley Catchpole, in an update on social media, said recent weeks had been "a lot", but added that she is determined to keep the business afloat. The post said: "We've been through some incredibly difficult personal circumstances, physical injury, and some unexpected, hefty financial upheaval. I'm currently recovering physically while trying to keep everything moving behind the scenes. I don't want anyone's pity — sometimes life throws you a hand you never asked for, and you just have to pick yourself up and keep going."
It continued: "Rose Cottage is still here, and I'm determined to make it everything I dreamed it could be — warm, welcoming, beautiful and full of life. So rather than feeling sorry for us, come and support us! We'd love to see you this evening to try our new menu and meet our new chef. Bring your friends, share our posts, tell someone about us, or simply come and say hello."
Hayley added: "It's been a bit of a s*** show but we're still standing."
The post went on to thank locals who have continued to show their support. "It means more than you know," the post concluded.
