A 500-year-old Cornish house with a mile of private coastline and more than 180 acres of green pastures and woodland has been put up for sale.
The property sits on the Roseland Peninsula on the south coast, two miles from the village of Portscatho. It is 17 miles from Truro and 19 miles from Newquay airport.
The estate includes a Grade II listed manor house, a stable block, a lodge and a cottage, all set within 183 acres of gardens, woodland and arable pasture. It also has more than a mile of direct frontage onto Gerrans Bay. The beach stretches between Portscatho and the cliffs of Nare Head. Most of it remains unspoiled and can only be reached on foot or by water.
The property is on sale for £12.5 million. According to Country Life, this is the first time it has been on the market since 2003. Before that, it had not been sold since 1945.
The house has six bedrooms, six reception rooms and four bathrooms. It features four-poster beds, copper freestanding baths, exotic wallpaper and a dedicated flower room. There is also a modern kitchen, a study and a breakfast room.
The grounds also contain a Grade II listed three-bedroom lodge, a three-bedroom farm cottage and a one-bedroom groom's flat.
Rosteague Manor, part of the estate, dates back to 1363. Its first recorded resident was Ralph de Restak. In the 16th century, the manor was owned by the Mohun family. It was sold to Nicholas Kempe in 1620 and remained in that family for generations. Henry Harris bought the property in 1780. Centuries later, during the Second World War, it was occupied by the Land Army.
