A man has died after getting into trouble in the sea off a popular South Devon beach.
The Devon and Cornwall Police were called by HM Coastguard at 3.30pm on Monday, August 24, after concerns were raised about the welfare of a swimmer at Blackpool Sands, Strete.
The man was pulled from the water by the Coastguard but could not be saved.
HM Coastguard sent a helicopter, two rescue teams and two RNLI lifeboats to the incident at about 2.40pm.
Police, who were called in later, said the man was treated at the scene by paramedics but was pronounced dead there.
He was in his 40s and from Surrey.
