Pensilva Health Centre Seeks Approval for Four New Rooms

An application has been submitted to extend Pensilva Health Centre, with four extra consultation rooms planned as part of a scheme to improve local facilities.

The proposal involves building a single-storey extension on the lawned area behind the existing building.

Documents supplied by applicant Katie German say the health centre currently has an unusual layout because it has been extended over time, and more consultation space is now needed.

The proposed work would turn an existing health space into two consultation rooms. A new corridor would lead into the extension, which would provide two more rooms.

About 40.1 square metres of internal floor space would be added, bringing the total gross internal area to roughly 509 square metres.

The development would stay at ground-floor level and would not change the existing main pedestrian or vehicle access.

Five new double-glazed uPVC windows are planned, designed to match those already in the building.

The existing health centre has a pebbledash finish. The extension would use painted smooth render and a concrete tiled roof, with a lower ridge height than the current building.

According to the supporting Design and Access Statement, existing landscaping around the health centre would remain unchanged.

The health centre sits on the edge of Pensilva’s residential area, close to Pensilva Primary School and the playing fields. It is not a listed building and is not in a conservation area, but the site lies on the edge of the Cornwall and West Devon Mining Landscape World Heritage Site.

The planning statement says the extension would cause only a minor increase in the building’s scale and would be largely screened by existing landscaping.

The applicant is seeking approval from Cornwall Council for the proposed extension.
