A Jack Russell had to be rescued from a 30ft ledge after falling down a cliff at Portscatho.
The pet had been walking with its owners when it got the scent of something. Before the owners could react, it had dived into the undergrowth and over the edge. The dog was stuck on a ledge about 30ft down the cliff, thankfully unhurt but unable to get back up.
The incident happened on Thursday afternoon (August 13).
Mevagissey and Portscatho coastguard rescue teams were called out to the scene to try to rescue and recover the dog.
A spokesperson from Mevagissey Coastguard said the teams set up a rope rescue system as soon as they arrived and sent a specialist down with a specially designed dog bag and a pocketful of treats.
They said: "The hapless dog was soon in the bag and recovered back to the top where it was reunited with the owners, completely unfazed by the whole event."
The spokesperson reiterated the safety advice for dog owners walking along Cornwall's cliffs.
They added: "Please keep your dogs on a lead on the coast path, especially on un-fenced sections. The undergrowth often hides sheer drops and it only takes a second for a dog to catch a scent and disappear. If your dog does go over the edge and can't get themselves back up, do not attempt to go down yourself to get them as you will be putting yourself in danger. Dial 999 and ask for the Coastguard, our rope technicians are trained in animal recovery and can reunite you with your dog in a safe manner."
