Connor Donnithorne, the Cornwall Council cabinet portfolio holder for transport, expressed, “As inhabitants of this locale, we are well aware of the challenges faced by Newquay’s roads during the bustling summer season when the population swells considerably. Park and Ride enables us to offer a consistent and dependable service, diverting traffic away from the town centre and easing congestion.”
“Taking into account the feedback from last summer, we have secured a fresh location for this year’s facility, capable of accommodating approximately 350 vehicles, which is twice the capacity of the previous year. Furthermore, we have introduced an earlier start time to assist individuals working in the town centre, and additional buses have been added to ensure regular services throughout the day,” Donnithorne added.
Mark Watson from Newquay BID expressed enthusiasm, stating, “Business owners and local residents alike welcome the Park and Ride service as it not only reduces the number of cars and congestion in central Newquay, but also provides an easier and more affordable means of transportation during our busiest period. I anticipate the expansion of this service in the future, as Newquay’s popularity extends beyond the peak summer season.”
James Church of Go Cornwall Bus shared his delight, saying, “We are thrilled to collaborate with Cornwall Council and Newquay Town Council to deliver the Newquay Park and Ride service for 2023. Whenever possible, we encourage all car users to take advantage of this facility, not only to alleviate congestion in the town, but also to improve air quality during the summer holidays. The timetable operates seven days a week, and fares can be purchased from the driver or through the Go Cornwall App.”
