Major New Homes Plan - Developer wants to create a living and commercial quarter

Major plans are in the pipeline to build a new living and commercial quarter in Newquay. A developer proposes 134 new homes, a shopping centre, office units and a new pub-restaurant on land north west of Gannel View Close, between Treloggan and Trencreek.

The scheme, which is east of Morrisons and north of the Goldings, also involves landscaping including creating ponds, ecological areas, a public open space with a play park and new cycle and pedestrian routes through and across the site.

It’s proposed to alleviate highway issues around Trencreek with a potential link to Nansledan’s Newquay Strategic Route to bypass the Trencreek junction onto the A392.

Residents are being asked for their opinions on the scheme through a public consultation, which will run until February 17. Cornwall Council has already been asked by the developers if an Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) is required.

An outline planning application is due to be submitted once feedback from the public consultation has been considered.

Architect Gareth Ellis, of CAD Architects, speaking on behalf of developer Modena Lifestyles Ltd, said: “This much-forgotten area of

Newquay is an important gateway site into the town and deserves a high-quality development. “We want this to be a place of character that people want to live, work and spend time in and we’re working towards making this aspiration a reality.

“The project includes up to 134 new homes including affordable homes, employment opportunities with proposed commercial / office space, shops, public house / restaurant, a local equipped area of play, retention and enhancement of site ecology, highways improvements around Treloggan and Trencreek and new pedestrian / cycle links.

“The project partners have created a dedicated web page about the development proposals for Treloggan, so that interested parties can view and comment on the scheme. “This exhibition is designed to inform and consult the local community on the proposals before an outline application is submitted.

“All comments will be considered and may have the potential to influence the design as it evolves, prior to the submission of the application.”
