Hendra scoops Oscars ward
Hendra´s Jon Hyatt and Chris North with the AA award

NEWQUAY’S biggest holiday park is toasting success after winning the ‘Oscars’ of the holiday park industry.

Hendra Holiday Park has been named as Britain’s Holiday Centre of the Year by the AA in its latest annual Caravan and Camping Awards.

Awards given by the AA, which are based on guest reviews and a secret shopper visit by inspectors, are regarded as the Oscars of the holiday parks industry.

The park’s facilities, services and levels of hospitality all went under the microscope and each was found to meet or exceed the platinum standard on every level.

Hendra director Jon Hyatt said the AA accolade was an “incredibly proud” moment for the May and Hyatt families who have owned the park for almost 50 years.

Jon said: “This award is particularly special to us because it is based not just on our quality standards, but the experience which guests enjoy. Providing happy holidays has always been our family’s main priority, and our friendly and helpful team deserve a big vote of thanks for helping us deliver this.

“With spring just around the corner and our advance bookings incredibly strong, we’ll now be going all out to make this our most successful season ever.”

The citation from the AA’s award judges noted that Hendra is “a much-loved and long established park with a host of family-orientated attractions close to fabulous beaches”.

Judges also praised the “spotless facilities, superb management and first-class accommodation”.

Hendra also came under the spotlight in February when it was named as one of the West Country’s top parks at the South West Tourism Excellence awards at Exeter Cathedral.

It beat hundreds of other eligible parks to clinch one of the top six places in the competition finals, attended by tourism chiefs and VIP guests from across six South West counties.

Completing the hat-trick, Hendra also swept the board in the annual search by the popular online guide for Britain’s favourite destinations.

It was crowned the national holiday park champion, based on the positive feedback and votes provided by families who booked their stays through the website.

Hendra, which first started welcoming camping guests in 1972, provides a wide range of attractions, including a pools complex, professional entertainment and family activities.
