TROPHY TIME: Football fans were given an exciting opportunity to see the Barclays Premier League trophy at Newquay Library

OVER 500 people took the rare opportunity to see and photograph the Premier League trophy as it visited Newquay Library on Saturday.

The library were given the chance to host the trophy for a day after winning a competition organised by Premier League sponsors Barclays on Facebook.

Two security guards accompanying the trophy were only too glad to explain its history, the significance of the design and details such as why the blue and white ribbons were arranged in such a fashion on the handles.

It was a hit with visitors and locals alike, with groups ranging from a stag party to a group of Scouts from Birmingham, and with all ages.

Richard Rundle, library and information assistant, said “We are grateful to the Premier League and to Barclays to enable us to put on this event, and it was a pleasure to see the sight of the trophy put a smile on so many faces, particularly those of the younger generation. As a result of the event several people either joined or re-joined the library.”
