Newquay surfer launches back to roots surfing magazine

By Matt Bond 10th December 2003

A NEW 'back to roots' surfing magazine hit the shelves on Tuesday after 10 months of hard work from a dedicated band of Newquay surfers.

Brainchild of 25-year-old Joe Moran, Pit Pilot promises to focus purely on the British surfing scene.

Featuring regular articles by surf writers from around Britain, a guest column by Dirty Sanchez star Matt Pritchard and interviews and tales from British surfers the bi-monthly magazine is available in Newquay surf shops priced £3.

Despite Joe's lack of experience in publishing the Newquay surfer was determined to see British surfers being given the recognition they deserve.

Joe, who has worked as a labourer for the past six years, first had the idea for Pit Pilot back in February and contacted the Prince's Trust who agreed to help financially.

He said: "I think there isn't something which concentrates purely on British surfers, they're good enough to feature in a British magazine."

Joe says Pit Pilot has a raw, back to the roots style that provides a refreshing change for local surfers.

"I'm trying to make everyone have a bit of a laugh rather than be too serious," he added.
