Hornets in mud bath battle

After the cold caused postponement of their visit to North Petherton the week before, it was touch and go as to whether the match at the Sports Centre would go ahead on Saturday - In the event the thaw came just in time to rescue the match against Okehampton.

The heavy rain an hour before kick-off created a surface that quickly became very muddy.
The first quarter of an hour was played out in midfield, but when the ball was moved to wing Kevin Dennis on the right, he handed off a tackle that went in too high to run in for a try.

It took only two minutes for the Okes to return

Hornets upbeat despite defeat

Hornets were undone within the first quarter; they just couldn’t get their hands on the ball but overall this was a more positive performance by the Newquay side despite the scoreline.

Truro set out to move the ball wide at every opportunity from the kick off and they were seventeen points up in as many minutes.  Fly half Karl Martin landed a penalty, scored a fine individual try and added the conversion before second row Ben Kemp forced his way over for Martin to convert.

Knockout weekend

NEWQUAY Amateur Boxing Club hosted the South West Senior Novice Championships at Newquay Sports Centre on Saturday night but, in a totally different sport,  Newquay and Godolphin football teams both added to the

A very young, but experienced team from Atlantic.coastsurf, aged between 12-16 competed at Croyde beach N.Devon this weekend and, battling against 10 other teams from across the UK, won the British Junior Surf team title.

Newquay's 11-goal romp!

Treyew Road licking their wounds - they showed no mercy as they put 11 goals past the bottom side.

In truth, the scoreline could have been 20 or more if Newquay had their shooting boots on, six of the goals came from headers.

This is not taking anything away from Hilton’s men though, Truro have been the Peppermints’ bogey side for some years, so to finally get a win against them, made this result just a little sweeter.

The game started off quietly enough, Newquay playing safe and looking for the perfect pass rather than taking any risks.

City rarely got a sniff off the ball as The Peppermints played what Hilton described as a 'parallelogram' with Ward, Carne, Bradshaw and Rigby

Perfect gift for Jim

NEWQUAY FC manager Jim Hilton has described those who have suggested he should stand down at Newquay as being “negative by nature”  and people who “will find a problem even if one doesn't exist” after his team brought home three points from Foxhole in the Peninsula League on Saturday.

In a passionate defence of his position at the football club which he has sent to the Newquay Voice after it revealed last week that there were some (including players) who were critical

Heartache for Hornets

Newquay Hornets  0 - 57 Wellington
Tribute Western Counties League West

IT WAS never to be a easy match, even with the advantage of familiar surroundings and great local support. However, players and supporters alike were disappointed as the Hornets once again failed to score for the second week in a row, and still chasing that all-important first season win.

Winning is a habit and Wellington, the visitors to the Sports Centre on Saturday, have certainly got it.  They came to Newquay as last season’s Cornwall and Devon League champions on the back of an unbeaten run of 44

Voice helps team get kitted out!

LAST week’s back page story about Newquay Football Club’s reserves team strip having been stolen has resulted in it being found and returned to Mount Wise.

After the story appeared on the back page of the Newquay Voice the club received a call from lifeguards at Great Western Beach.

Colin Slaney the Newquay AFC clubhouse secretary explained "I took a call from lifeguards at Great Western Beach.

“They told me that a box containing some of the stolen kit had been handed into them, a woman had found it whilst walking down the slip road leading down to the beach."

The kit had been purchased for the club by two loyal supporters,

Newquay football kit stolen

NEWQUAY Football Club are urging businesses to come forward and support the team after their new kit was stolen.

A sponsor is desperately needed this week to replace the new away strip - the club was left stranded after they received a call explaining the delivery van containing their new away kit had been broken into.

Mark Charles from Newquay AFC said: "The kit will be worn all over Cornwall and Devon so the potential sponsor will get a wide area

Ladies make county finals

NEWQUAY Rowing Club once again put on a grand show with the first of the two major county gig championship weekends - the harbour hosting the 33rd Ladies and Junior gig competitions over two wet and changeable days.

And local gig supporters had plenty to cheer about as their women’s A crew fought through the three rounds of competition to reach the finals with the B crew just missing out on a semi-final place by a single second.

In total 93 ladies crews from across
