THE winners of this year’s Newquay Carnival procession have been presented with their awards by the event organisers.

This year the overall winners of the carnival were the Newquay Brownies. Made up of both 3rd Newquay and 4th Newquay units, the girls walked in the carnival dressed as Suffragettes to commemorate 100 years since women got the vote.

The Brownies made paper flowers by hand for their hats, decorated sashes and signs and even had fake railings which they chained themselves to.

A spokesperson from Newquay Brownies said: “We are very proud to have been awarded the best in carnival, the girls worked very hard and we want to thank them, our leaders and all of the parents who supported us.”

President of the Newquay Lions, who organise the Carnival every year, presented the group with a shield which will be engraved with their achievement and a cheque for £100.

The Friends of Newquay Hospital were also presented with an award for their entry - a humorous float featuring members of the Royal Family and political figures such as Donald Trump.
