Work starts on major school modernisation

LONGSTANDING plans to modernise Newquay’s biggest school finally got underway with an official turf cutting event on Thursday to kickstart the major £15million rebuild.

Newquay Tretherras directors, staff, students, Education and Schools Funding Agency and representatives of the architects Stride Treglown, gathered in their hard hats with the contractors, BAM Construction to see the first spade go into the ground for the new two storey building .

The new block, which has been in the planning for 15 years, will contain 10 maths classrooms, 10 English classrooms, a 300 seater hall with retractable bleacher seating, an activity studio, three ICT classrooms and a PE classroom. The building will be constructed on the existing tennis court area and replacement, with floodlit tennis courts provided. The facilities will be available to students from September 2019
