COASTGUARDS have said a man is “alive but just” after he was recovered from the foot of cliffs at the Gazzle.A local coasteering group discovered the unconscious but breathing man 80-feet midway down the cliff on Tuesday morning. It is believed he had been there all night.
Local Coastguard, RNLI, and paramedic crews were involved in recovering the man from the foot of cliffs. A RAF Sea King airlifted him to Treliske hospital with significant head injuries and damage to his ribs and shoulders.
Just two days before the body of 18-year-old Andrew Curwell was found at the bottom of cliffs between Towan and Great Western Beaches. The former Leeds Rhinos Academy player was discovered at 4.55am on Sunday. A police woman said it was a tragedy to have two cliff falls in a week.
A spokesman for Leeds Rhinos said: "It was with deep regret that the club learnt of the tragic death of former academy player Andrew Curwell.”
Head of youth development at the academy Barrie McDermott said: "Just three weeks ago he finished with our academy so he could concentrate on his studies and I know he was a looking forward to going to university in the future. He was well liked by all his team mates and coaches and will be sadly missed."
